Jelly shots remind me of parties at uni, with partially set gloopy messes containing far more alcohol than is strictly recommended, and far less resulting solid jelly than I’m comfortable with.
Last night a friend came over to make alcoholic jelly shots for our Halloween party, and she brought SPARKLY jelly. She spent ages in the jelly aisle at the supermarket looking for vegan-friendly jelly before realising the packet she had in her hands actually didn’t contain gelatine.
Obviously the instructions on the packet didn’t include a step-by-step on how to make “adult” jellies, but we adapted the recipe to make a pretty good version of our own. I actually feel a bit bad calling this a recipe. It’s literally just mixing alcohol, water, and a packet of crystals in a jug and attempting not to spill it everywhere.
You will need:
- A jelly mould or plastic shot glasses
- 100g packet of Hartley’s Glitter Jelly Crystals (we used Mixed Berry, Strawberry and Blue Raspberry)
- 500ml boiling water
- 250ml clear alcohol (we used vodka and Malibu)
In a big jug, mix the boiling water and jelly crystals until completely dissolved. Add the alcohol and stir. Pour into moulds or shot glasses and chill overnight. Consume whilst desperately running around trying to get all the pieces of your Halloween costume together.
